Shepherd Men Record Third Straight Win

Box Score URBANA, Ohio – Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Shepherd University (9-6, 6-3 MEC) to an 84-77 win over Urbana University (8-7, 3-6 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Urbana on Saturday afternoon. Shepherd ran its winning streak to three games with the victory.

Carr connected on 7-of-11 field goals and was 4-of-5 from the foul line.

Sophomore forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) tossed in 15 points and junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 14.

Junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tossed in 13 points, while senior guard Niam Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) contributed 11 points, seven boards, and tied Roman for game-high assists honors with five.

Jahmere Howze scored 21 points to lead the Blue Knights. DeQuan Abrom added 16, while Carlas Jackson had 15.

Shepherd had a 41-28 advantage at the break as Burgess (10) and Davis (11) combined for 21 first half points.

The Rams led by as many as 14 points in the second half but Urbana used a 7-1 run midway through the half to get to within a point at 66-65 after a pair of free throws by Howze with 4:14 remaining. Shepherd proceeded on a 10-0 run to take a 76-65 advantage to retake control of the game.

Shepherd shot 50 percent (31-62) from the floor with a 31.6 percent effort (6-19) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 61.5 percent (16-26) from the charity stripe.

Urbana hit on 46 percent (29-63) from the floor with a 30 percent (6-20) performance from beyond the arc.

The Blue Knights connected on 61.9 percent (13-21) of their free throws.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Notre Dame College for a 2 p.m. game.
