Balanced Effort Leads Shepherd Women Past Urbana

Box Score URBANA, Ohio – Six Rams scored in double figures to lead Shepherd University (6-11, 3-6 MEC) to an 81-66 win over Urbana University (4-8, 2-7 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Urbana on Saturday.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) scored 12 points and dished out a career and game-high 14 assists to pace the Rams. Mason also tied Urbana's Erin Morrow with a game-high eight rebounds.

Senior forward Kristina Prange (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus), sophomore guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area), and junior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) also tossed in 12 points.

Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) and junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) both contributed 11 points. Myers added six boards and a game-high four blocked shots.

Morgan Mattimore scored 19 points and Stefanie Davis added 18. Sylvia Hudson had 10 points and seven boards.

The Rams outscored Urbana, 20-11 in the second period to take control of the game and take a 48-29 lead into the break. Tibbs tallied nine points to key the Shepherd scoring in the pivotal second period.

Shepherd shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 46.2 percent effort (6-13) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 80.8 percent (21-26) from the charity stripe.

Urbana hit on 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor with a 16.7 percent (2-12) performance from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights connected on 85.7 percent (18-21) of their free throws.

Urbana had a 43-31 rebounding advantage. Shepherd forced 16 turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Notre Dame College for a noon game.
