Davis Layup Lifts Shepherd Men Past Notre Dame

Box Score SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored a layup with one second left in regulation to lift Shepherd University (10-6, 7-3 MEC) to a 78-77 win over Notre Dame College (12-4, 6-4 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Notre Dame on Monday afternoon.

Senior guard Niam Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) led the Rams with 19 points and six assists. He connected on 5-of-11 shots with a 1-of-3 effort from three-point range. He hit on 8-of-10 free throws.

Davis added 15 points and went over 1,000 points for his career. He currently has 1,010 career points.
Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) contributed 14 points.

Also in double figures for the Rams were junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) with 12 points, while sophomore forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) added 10.

Kyauta Taylor added 24 points for the Falcons.

The Rams rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to come away with the win. Shepherd used a 26-8 run to take a 73-70 advantage after a three-pointer by Carr with 1:19 remaining. Carr (9) and Muhammad (7) combined to scored 16 points to fuel the run.

The Falcons rallied to take a 77-76 lead after a three-pointer by Oliver Megins with 17 seconds left to set the stage for Davis' heroics.

Shepherd shot 41 percent (25-61) from the floor with a 39.3 percent effort (11-28) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 68 percent (17-25) from the charity stripe.

Notre Dame connected on 54.9 percent (28-51) from the floor with a 31.8 percent (7-22) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons hit on 77.8 percent (14-18) of their free throws.

Notre Dame had a 34-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed just three.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host second-ranked Fairmont State for a 7:30 p.m. game.
