Shepherd Women Upset Fairmont State

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Shepherd University (8-11, 5-6 MEC) to a 64-54 win over Fairmont State (9-7, 6-4 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.

Myers connected on 9-of-12 field goals. She also added a pair of steals.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) tossed in 15 points, while senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) added five points, a game-high nine assists, and six boards.

Sophomore guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) contributed seven points and seven rebounds.

Deidre Combs had 17 points and six rebounds for the Falcons. Amanda Ruffner added 14 points, while Gabrielle Etter had 11.

The Rams used a 20-5 third period to pull away for the victory. Myers had eight points and junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added five to key the rally.

Shepherd shot 58.1 percent (25-43) from the floor with a 30 percent effort (3-10) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 50 percent (11-22) from the charity stripe.

Fairmont State hit on 36.4 percent (20-55) from the floor with a 22.7 percent (5-22) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons connected on 75 percent (9-12) of their free throws.

Fairmont State had a 38-26 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 27.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Glenville State for a 2 p.m. game.
