Arden Leads Shepherd Women Past UVa-Wise

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a team-high 20 points to lead Shepherd (9-12, 6-7 MEC) to a 73-66 win over UVa-Wise (15-6, 10-3 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.

Arden hit on 5-9 shots from the floor with a 1-of-2 effort from three-point range. She was 7-for-8 from the foul line.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) added 15 points and a game-high eight assists, while senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) tallied 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Makenzie Cluesman scored a game-high 21 points to lead Wise. Kayla Muillins, Ashley Cullen, and Kayla Carey each added 10 points.

Shepherd outscored UVa-Wise, 21-12, in the fourth period to pull away for the win.

Shepherd shot 50 percent (26-52) from the floor with a 21.4 percent effort (3-14) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 81.8 percent (18-22) from the charity stripe.

UVa-Wise hit on 46.4 percent (26-56) from the floor with a 31.3 percent (5-16) performance from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers connected on 50 percent (9-18) of their free throws.

UVa-Wise had a 37-32 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 15.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Concord for a 2 p.m. game.
