Carr Drives Shepherd Men Past Concord

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) scored a game and career-high 32 points to lead Shepherd University (13-7, 10-4 MEC) to an 86-69 win over Concord (5-15, 1-13 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Carr connected on 14-of-21 field goals with a 1-of-7 effort from three-point range. He had a 3-of-3 effort from the charity stripe. Carr also handed out four assists and recorded a game-high three steals.

Sophomore forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) added 16 points, while junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) contributed 10 points and four assists.

Cam Shannon scored 20 points and Babe Murphy tossed in 15 for the Mountain Lions. Aaron Miller added 12 points, while Patrick Eugene grabbed nine rebounds.

Shepherd carried a 48-35 lead into the break behind 20 first half points from Carr.

The Mountain Lions used an 8-0 run late in the second half to cut the lead to six points at 70-62 after a jumper by Shannon with 5:24 remaining. Shepherd responded with a 7-0 run to take control of the game.

Shepherd connected on 54.7 percent (35-64) from the floor with a 35.5 percent (11-31) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 83.3 percent (5-6) of their free throws.

Concord shot 39 percent (23-59) from the floor with a 34.2 percent effort (13-38) from three-point range.
The Mountain Lions shot 76.9 percent (10-13) from the charity stripe.

Shepherd had a 40-29 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced nine turnovers and committed 10.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host nationally-ranked West Liberty for a 7:30 p.m. game.
