Balanced Attack Leads Shepherd Men Past Concord

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored a game-high 17 points to lead five Rams in double figures as Shepherd University (6-5, 3-2 MEC) recorded an 87-74 win over Concord (5-6, 1-3 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Concord on Tuesday night.

Davis hit on 6-of-12 field goals with a 5-of-10 effort from three-point range.

Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) added 15 points, junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tossed in 14, sophomore forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) had 12, while freshman guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) had 10.

Carr led the Rams with seven rebounds, while senior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had a game-high five assists to go along with four points and six boards.

Michael Sanchez had 16 points and Aaron Miller added 13 for the Mountain Lions.

Shepherd had a 41-35 lead at halftime behind nine first half points from Roman.

Shepherd went on a 12-2 run midway through the second half to build up an 18-point lead at 62-44 after a three-pointer by Davis with 13:20 remaining to take control of the contest. Davis had six points and Lang added four to key the run.

Shepherd hit on 36-of-62 field goals (58.1 percent) with a 10-of-23 (43.5 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams had a 5-of-10 effort (50 percent) from the foul line.

Concord connected on 26-of-62 field goals (41.9 percent) with a 10-of-28 effort (35.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions were 12-of-15 from the foul line (80 percent).

Concord had a 35-32 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed nine.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 4 p.m. game.
