Muhammad Reaches 1,000-Point Mark; Shepherd Men Fall at UVa-Wise

Box Score WISE, Va. – Senior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) went over 1,000 points for his career, but UVa-Wise (3-9, 1-5 MEC) posted a 78-69 win over Shepherd University (6-6, 3-3 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at UVa-Wise on Thursday afternoon.

Muhammad tallied nine points on the day and now has 1,002 for his career.

Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) led the Rams with team highs of 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) tossed in 15 points, while junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 13. Sophomore forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) was also in double figures with 12.

Taiwo Badmus had 30 points and 11 rebounds to pace the Cavaliers. Dimitri Sousa added 20 points.

Wise outscored Shepherd 43-33 in the second half to pull away for the win. The Cavaliers shot a red-hot 58.3 percent (14-24) from the floor with 71.4 percent effort (5-7) from long distance.

Shepherd hit on 25-of-63 field goals (39.7 percent) with an 8-of-34 (23.5 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams had an 11-of-12 effort (91.7 percent) from the foul line.

UVa-Wise connected on 28-of-53 field goals (52.8 percent) with a 9-of-21 effort (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers were 13-of-22 from the charity stripe (59.1 percent).

Wise had a 35-34 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host West Virginia State at 4 p.m. for Smallwood & Small Insurance Day and Meet the Rams Day.
