UVa-Wise Runs Past Shepherd Women

Box Score WISE, Va. – Taylor Sandidge scored a game-high 22 points to lead UVa-Wise (10-4, 5-1 MEC) to an 81-42 win over Shepherd University (4-10, 1-5 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at UVa-Wise on Thursday afternoon.

Sandidge hit on 7-of-12 shots with a 3-of-4 effort from beyond the arc. She was 5-of-7 from the foul line.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) led the Rams with 11 points. Tibbs hit on 5-of-10 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from the foul line.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) added nine points and four assists, while sophomore guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Mackenzie Cluesman added 13 points and eight assists for the Cavaliers.

UVa-Wise outscored the Rams, 22-12, in the second period to take control of the game and grab a 30-18 advantage going into the break.

Shepherd shot 27.1 percent (16-59) from the floor with a 13.3 percent effort (2-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 57.1 percent (8-14) from the charity stripe.

UVa-Wise connected on 49.1 percent (27-55) from the floor with a 45 percent (9-20) performance from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers hit on 62.1 percent (18-29) of their free throws.

Wise had a 49-28 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 18.

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host West Virginia State at 2 p.m. for Smallwood & Small Insurance Day and Meet the Rams Day.
