Shepherd Men Handle West Virginia State

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored 25 points and junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 24 to lead Shepherd University (7-6, 4-3 MEC) to a 106-61 win over West Virginia State (5-8, 2-5 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Sunday afternoon.

Roman hit on 10-of-16 field goals with a 2-of-5 effort from three-point range. He was 3-of-5 from the foul line. Roman also had a game-high six assists.

Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) tossed in 15 points, while senior guard Niam Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added 13.

Ernest Jenkins and Terrance Jenkins each had 11 points for the Yellow Jackets. Jahlen Green added 10 points.

Shepherd opened the game on a 29-7 run and never looked back. The Rams took a 61-26 lead into the break behind a 64.1 field goal percentage (25-39), a 64.3 three-point field goal percentage (9-14) and a 100 percent free throw percentage (2-2).

Shepherd hit on 41-of-76 field goals (53.9 percent) with a 16-of-29 (55.2 percent) effort from three-point range for the game. The Rams had an 8-of-11 effort (72.7 percent) from the foul line.

West Virginia State connected on 22-of-71 field goals (31 percent) with an 8-of-30 effort (26.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets were 9-of-11 from the foul line (81.8 percent).

Shepherd had a 45-39 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and committed just eight.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host University of Charleston at 7:30 p.m.
