ATHENS, W.Va. –  Sam Ashton recorded a hat trick to lead Concord (3-11-2, 3-7-2 MEC) to a 5-1 win over Shepherd University (0-16-1, 0-11-0 MEC) in MEC men's soccer action at Concord on Wednesday afternoon.

Ashton scored an unassisted goal at the 3:00 mark and added another on a penalty kick at the 5:19 mark to give the Mountain Lions a 2-0 lead at the break.

Ashton opened up the second half scoring when he scored on a header off a feed from Yacouba Traore at the 52:27 mark.

Concord took a 4-0 lead at the 60:39 mark as Maxime Ramioulle scored on assists from Josh Mattson and Michael D'Angelo.

Junior midfielder Justin Daniels (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) found the back of the net for the Rams on a pass from senior midfielder Kevin Bonanno (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) at the 67:46 mark.

The Mountain Lions closed out the scoring at the 80:58 mark when Andrew Hartman scored off a corner kick by Moulay Hassani.

Senior goalkeeper Jacob Clements (Frederick Md./Tuscarora/Frederick CC) recorded nine saves for the Rams, while Kyle Brown posted a pair of saves for the Mountain Lions.

Concord had a 28-5 advantage in shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Charleston for a 5 p.m. match.
