Shepherd Women Knock Off Goldey-Beacom

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Shepherd University (3-0) to a 79-69 win over Goldey-Beacom College (1-2) in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night.

Tibbs hit on 6-of-15 field goals with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She was 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West  York Area) added 19 points, eight rebounds, and four assists while senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove)  tossed in 18 points and posted a game-high six steals.

Senior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) had 10 points and five boards and senior forward Jazmyne Howard (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) contributed six points and six rebounds.

The Lightning got 19 points and six rebounds from Britani Bryson. Amanda McGrogan added 16 points, while Tanner Turner-Rush tossed in 15.

Shepherd led 40-37 at the break as Arden (13) and Tibbs (12) combined for 35 first-half points.

The Rams led by as many as 12 points at 54-42 after a layup by Howard with 3:23 left in the third period.

The Lightning would get no closer than eight points for the remainder of the contest. 

Shepherd shot 41.3 percent (26-63) from the floor with a 43.5 percent effort (10-23) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 85 percent (17-20) from the charity stripe.

Goldey-Beacom hit on 42.9 percent (27-63) from the floor with a 27.8 percent (5-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Lightning connected on 71.4 percent (10-14) of their free throws.

Goldey-Beacom had a 41-39 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 2 p.m. game.
