Box Score PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Shepherd University (1-2) to an 82-65 win over Holy Family (0-3) in men's basketball action at Holy Family on Wednesday night.
Lang connected on 7-of-10 field goals with a 3-of-6 effort from three-point range. He sank 3-of-4 free throws. Lang also added a game-high six assists.
Senior forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) added 18 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Devin Smith Baltimore, Md./Randallstown/Richard Bland CC) tossed in 15 points. Senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) was also in double figures with 14 points.
Shepherd had a 35-29 lead at halftime as McTavish (8) and Smith (8) combined for 16 first-half points.
Jerrel Burke and Maliq Sanders each scored 19 points to lead the Tigers. Terrell Jones added 11 points and nine boards.
Shepherd connected on 52.7 percent (29-55) from the floor with a 40.7 percent (11-27) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 68.4 percent (13-19) of their free throws.
Holy Family shot 33.3 percent (20-60) from the floor with a 26.5 percent effort (9-34) from three-point range. The Tigers shot 76.2 percent (16-21) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 41-33 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 15.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 4 p.m. contest.
