Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Shepherd University (4-0, 1-0 MEC) to a 63-55 win over West Virginia State (0-3, 0-1 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at West Virginia State on Saturday.
Arden hit on 7-of-16 field goals with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 4-of-4 from the foul line. She added five assists and a pair of steals.\
Junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added 11 points and game highs of 15 rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Senior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) added 12 points and nine boards.
Aurreshae Hines had 11 points to lead State. Denisha Bowman added eight points and nine rebounds.
Shepherd trailed 34-15 at the half.
The Rams took the lead for good at 54-52 on a layup by McKinney with 5:40 left in the fourth period. Shepherd finished the game on a 9-3 run to seal the run.
Shepherd shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor with a 26.3 percent effort (5-19) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 66.7 percent (16-24) from the charity stripe.
West Virginia State hit on 28.8 percent (19-66) from the floor with a 12 percent (3-25) performance from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets connected on 77.8 percent (14-18) of their free throws.
Both teams had 46 rebounds. Shepherd forced 14 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Charleston for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
