Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Octavia Loll scored a game-high 18 points to lead Charleston (2-1, 2-0 MEC) to a 69-65 win over Shepherd University (4-1, 1-1 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Charleston on Monday night.
Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) led the Rams with 17 points. Arden hit on 7-of-15 field goals with a 1-of-1 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-3 from the foul line. She added a game-high seven assists.
Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) added 11 points and tied junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) for team-high rebounding honors with seven boards. Lankford added nine points, six assists, and five steals.
Abby Watson had 12 points and Brooklyn Pannell added 11 for the Golden Eagles. Anna Hayton had eight points and nine rebounds.
Charleston had a 32-31 lead at halftime.
The Golden Eagles took the lead for good at 62-60 on a layup by Loll with 1:27 left in the contest.
Shepherd shot 45.5 percent (25-55) from the floor with a 50 percent effort (5-10) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 66.7 percent (10-13) from the charity stripe.
Charleston hit on 40.7 percent (22-54) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (6-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles connected on 65.5 percent (19-29) of their free throws.
Charleston had a 43-27 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to Millersville for a 7 p.m. contest.
