Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a team-high 22 points and went over 1,500 points for her career, but Glenville State (6-1, 4-0 MEC) handed Shepherd University (4-4, 1-3 MEC) a 133-61 setback in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Arden hit on 9-of-17 field goals with a 2-of-2 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added four assists. Arden (1,507) moved past Shepherd Hall of Famer Cassie Murray (1,494) into second place on the Shepherd all-time scoring list.
Freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Rams.
Paris McLeod had a game-high 25 points to lead seven players in double figures for the Pioneers. Emily Stoller added 23 points, Kristin DesRocher tossed in 17, Courtney Davis had 13, Erica Toney added 12, while Bhrea Griffin and Julie Bishop each tossed in 11.
Glenville State opened the game on a 16-4 run and Shepherd was unable to recover.
Shepherd shot 39.7 percent (25-63) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (4-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 58.3 percent (7-12) of their free throws.
Glenville State hit on 57.3 percent (51-89) from the floor with a 42.9 percent (15-35) performance from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 72.7 percent (16-22) of their free throws.
Glenville State had a 47-35 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 35.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host West Liberty for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Notes: The 2007-08 WVIAC Champion and NCAA II East Region Runner-up Shepherd women's basketball team was honored at halftime ... They posted a 24-7 overall mark with an 18-2 record in conference play.
