Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 31 points to lead Shepherd University (5-4, 2-3 MEC) to a 79-72 overtime win over West Liberty (3-6, 2-3 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
Arden hit on 13-of-24 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-3 from the foul line.
Junior guards Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) and Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) each added 12 points, while freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) had 10 points and game highs of 14 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Marissa Brown had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead the Hilltoppers. McKenna Shives added 18 points, while Audrey Tingle contributed a game-high 10 assists.
Shepherd had a 32-30 lead at halftime behind 12 first half points from Lankford.
The Rams trailed by as many as 13 points in the fourth period, but Arden scored 16 points in the period to help Shepherd regain the lead. Brown hit a layup with18 seconds left in regulation for West Liberty to force the extra session.
Shepherd outscored West Liberty, 9-2, in overtime to secure the victory.
Shepherd shot 47.1 percent (33-70) from the floor with a 30.8 percent effort (4-13) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 81.8 percent (9-11) of their free throws.
West Liberty hit on 40.3 percent (29-72) from the floor with a 42.9 percent (9-30) performance from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers connected on 55.6 percent (5-9) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 50-34 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 18 turnovers and committed 21.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 2 p.m. contest.
