Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Monica Burns scored 17 points and Chenelle Moore added 15 to lead Wheeling Jesuit (3-6, 2-4 MEC) to a 63-56 win over Shepherd University (5-5, 2-4 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.
Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) paced the Rams with a game-high 20 points. Arden hit on 8-of-17 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three-point range. She was 3-of-3 from the foul line. Arden also had a game-high six assists.
Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) added 13 points, while junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Mariah Callan added 10 points for the Cardinals.
Wheeling Jesuit had a 29-26 lead at halftime as Moore (8) and Lauren Lipscomb (8) combined for 16 first-half points.
Shepherd got to within five points late in the game at 61-56 after a pair of free throws by Arden with 38 seconds remaining in regulation. Burns proceeded to hit a pair of free throws to cap the win for the Cardinals.
Shepherd shot 36.5 percent (23-63) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (6-18) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 44.4 percent (4-9) of their free throws.
Wheeling Jesuit hit on 39.6 percent (19-48) from the floor with a 23.5 percent (4-17) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 80.8 percent (21-26) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 40-35 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 14 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Dec. 18 when they host Shippensburg for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
