Shepherd Women Defeat West Liberty

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Shepherd University (10-13, 7-8 MEC) to a 73-68 win over West Liberty (7-14, 6-9 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday.

Arden hit on 6-of-12 shots from the floor with a 9-of-12 effort from the foul line.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) added 14 points and a game-high six assists, while senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) tossed in 12 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Emily Bucon scored 18 points and Marissa Brown added 17 to pace the Hilltoppers. Johnie Olkosky had 10 points and tied Mason with a game-high six assists.

Shepherd had a 42-30 lead at the half behind a 68 percent (17-25) first half field goal percentage.

The Rams led by as many as 19 points in the second half, but West Liberty used a 22-4 run rally to within a point at 65-64 after a jumper by Bucon with 2:22 left in regulation.

Shepherd hit 5-of-8 free throws in the final minutes to seal the win.

Shepherd shot 47.4 percent (27-57) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (3-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 69.6 percent (16-23) from the charity stripe.

West Liberty hit on 46 percent (23-50) from the floor with a 40 percent (8-20) performance from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers connected on 77.8 percent (2) of their free throws.

Rebounds were even at 34-all. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 2 p.m. game.
