Shepherd Women Down West Virginia State

Box Score INSTITUTE, W.Va. – Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) scored a game-high 21 points to lead Shepherd University (13-15, 10-10 MEC) to a 92-75 win over West Virginia State (12-14, 10-10 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at West Virginia State on Saturday.

Myers connected on 10-of-16 field goals with a 1-of-4 effort from the foul line. She added eight rebounds and a game-high four blocked shots.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) was a rebound shy of a triple-double as she had 18 points, 11 assists, and nine boards. Junior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) added career highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds, while junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) contributed 13 points and five assists.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) was also in double figures with 11 points.

Sydney Bates led State with 19 points. Jordan Miller added 12 points, while Shealyn Shafer had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Shepherd had a 45-39 lead at halftime.

The Rams took the lead for good at 33-32 on a layup by Mason with 6:33 left in the second period.

Shepherd shot 55.1 percent (38-69) from the floor with a 33.3 percent effort (5-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 78.6 percent (11-14) from the charity stripe.

West Virginia State hit on 35.7 percent (30-84) from the floor with a 25 percent (9-36) performance from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets connected on 50 percent (6-12) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 50-41 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced nine turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 5:30 p.m. game.
