Shepherd Women Down West Virginia Wesleyan for Fourth Straight Win

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) scored a game-high 17 points to lead Shepherd University (14-15, 11-10 MEC) to a 65-61 win over West Virginia Wesleyan (6-18, 6-15 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action on Senior Night at the Butcher Center on Thursday.

Mason connected on 8-of-10 field goals with a 1-of-2 effort from the foul line. She added four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals.

Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 12 points, six boards, and four blocked shots, while senior forward Kristina Prange (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) tossed in 11 points.

Sophomore guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) hauled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Nicole Gilyard had 14 points to lead West Virginia Wesleyan. Tara Goldman added 13 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Shepherd had a 35-22 lead at halftime.

Shepherd shot 42.9 percent (27-63) from the floor with a 9.1 percent effort (1-11) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 52.6 percent (10-19) from the charity stripe.

West Virginia Wesleyan hit on 36.8 percent (25-68) from the floor with a 26.1 percent (6-23) performance from beyond the arc. The Bobcats connected on 62.5 percent (5-8) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 51-40 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 16.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. game.
