Shepherd Baseball Downed by West Chester

Box Score DINWIDDIE, Va. – West Chester (1-0) posted a 15-6 win over Shepherd University (1-6) in baseball action at Dinwiddie, Virginia on Friday.

Holding a 2-1 lead, West Chester plated five runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the contest.
Nick Bateman hit a two-run homer and Zach Seranko added a two-run double to key the rally

Bateman went 2-for-5 with five runs batted in and a pair of runs scored to lead the Golden Rams. Shane Dressler added a 3-for-5 effort with two runs score d and a pair of runs batted in.

Senior second baseman Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) and senior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William& Mary) each went 3-for-5, drove in three runs and scored another. Sarty had a two-run blast and Carney added a two-run single to key a four-run rally for the Rams in the fifth.

Senior infielder Tyler Piccolo (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point/Dowling) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and sophomore Reid Entsminger (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Lamar) added a 1-for-3 performance with two runs scored.

Sophomore pitcher A.J. Stead (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) (0-2) (3.0 IP, 2 K, 4 BB, 4 H, 7 R, 5 ER) took the loss for the Rams. Eric Close (1-0) (8.0 IP, 5 K, 3 BB, 11 H, 6 R, 5 ER) gained the win for the Golden Rams.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they take on St. Thomas Aquinas at 3 p.m. and later at 6 p.m. in Dinwiddie.
