Shepherd Women Fall at Fairmont State

Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Deidre Combs scored 18 points and Makenzie White added 17 to lead Fairmont State (17-11, 14-8 MEC) to a 78-63 win over Shepherd University (14-16, 11-11 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Fairmont on Saturday.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led the Rams with 17 points. She connected on 8-of-13 field goals with a 1-of-1 effort from the foul line. She added team highs of eight rebounds and four assists.

Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 15 points, while junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) tossed in 14.

White also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Falcons. Amanda Ruffner added 14 points and Emily Puskarich.

The game was tied at 33-all at halftime.

The Falcons outscored the Rams, 23-14, in the third period to pull away for the win.

Shepherd shot 25-59 percent (25-59) from the floor with a 26.7 percent effort (4-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 81.8 percent (9-11) from the charity stripe.

Fairmont State hit on 43.8 percent (28-64) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (6-21) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons connected on 76.2 percent (16-21) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 40-33 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 11 turnovers and committed 20.

The Rams await word on seeding for next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament.
