Shepherd Men Fall at Sixteenth-Ranked Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Haywood Highsmith scored 18 points and Pat Moseh added 17 to lead 16th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (18-4, 12-4 MEC) to an 86-66 win over Shepherd University (13-9, 10-6 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Senior guard Niam Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) scored 17 points to lead the Rams. He hit on 7-of-10 field goals with a 3-of-6 performance from the foul line.

Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) and junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) each added 11 points.

Five players hit in double figures for the Cardinals as Preston Boswell added 15 points, Kyle Ritz had 13 and Chase Lawson chipped in with 12.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 41-35 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals shot over 60 percent from the floor in the second half and opened up a double-digit lead midway through the second stanza that they would not relinquish.

Shepherd connected on 48.1 percent (26-54) from the floor with a 31.8 percent (7-22) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 58.3 percent (7-12) of their free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit shot 50.7 percent (34-67) from the floor with a 32.1 percent effort (9-28) from three-point range. The Cardinals shot 75 percent (9-12) from the charity stripe.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 38-26 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Notre Dame for a 5:30 p.m. game.
