Shepherd Women Fall at Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Mariah Callen scored a game-high 28 points to lead Wheeling Jesuit (18-4, 13-3 MEC) to an 81-60 win over Shepherd University (10-14, 7-9 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Callen hit on 8-of-13 field goals with a 5-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. She was 7-of-8 from the foul line.

Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) led the Rams with 14 points. Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 11 points and nine rebounds, while senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) chipped in with nine points and a game-high six assists.

Jaana Motton added 13 points and 15 rebounds for the Cardinals. Monica Burns and Chantelle Moore each added 10 points.

Shepherd had a 38-34 lead at the half as Arden (8) and Myers (7) combined for 15 first half points.

Wheeling Jesuit outscored Shepherd , 27-8, in the third period to pull away for the victory. Callen had 13 points during the rally.

Shepherd shot 36.7 percent (22-60) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (4-16) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 63.2 percent (12-19) from the charity stripe.

Wheeling Jesuit hit on 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 37.5 percent (6-16) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 75 percent (21-28) of their free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 47-27 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 16 turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Notre Dame for a 5:30 p.m. game.
