Shepherd Softball Splits with Glenville State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Shepherd University (10-5, 1-1 MEC) split a pair of games with Glenville State (6-10, 1-1 MEC) in MEC softball action at Glenville on Sunday. The Rams posted an 8-3 win in game one and the Pioneers gained the split with a 5-4 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd plated four runs in the first inning in game one. Senior third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) had an RBI-single and freshman shortstop Debbie Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) belted a solo blast to key the rally.

Glenville State cut the lead to 4-1 on a solo blast by Makenzie Smith in the second.

Shepherd added a run in the third when sophomore first baseman Connor Gilligan Medford, N.J. Shawnee) reached on an error and scored on a single by senior outfielder Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East).

Sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) hit a two-run single to highlight a three-run rally in the sixth for the Rams to up the lead to 8-1.

Miranda Cropp smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for the Pioneers.

Witt and Buckworth each had a pair of hits for the Rams.

Junior pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) (7.0 IP, 6 H 3 ER, 15 K, 0 BB) went the distance to gain the win for the Rams. Ally Brown (2.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) took the loss for the Pioneers.

Glenville State rallied with four runs on one hit and three Shepherd errors in the bottom of the sixth to earn the nightcap win.

Cropp went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Pioneers.

Sophomore first baseman Connor Gilligan Medford, N.J. Shawnee) and freshman infielder Bailee Jackson (Union, W.Va./James Monroe) each had a pair of hits for the Rams.

Senior pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (1-1) (6.0 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 0 BB) took the loss for the Rams. Brown (5.0 IP, 6 H 3 R 0 ER, 2 K, 4 BB) gained the win in relief for Glenville State.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
