Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Knocks Off Northern Michigan For First Win

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) had four goals and two assists, while senior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) added four goals and an assist to lead Shepherd (1-6) to a 16-9 win over Northern Michigan (1-3) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday.

Freshman attacker Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) added two goals and an assist, while senior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and freshman attacker/midfielder Emily Brown (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) each netted a pair of goals.

Senior midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) had a goal and two assists, while junior midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) also tallied a goal. Senior attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) posted a game-high three assists.

Graison Ringlever led the Wildcats with six goals. Blair Osgood added a pair of goals, while Angelica Bogden also netted a goal.

Shepherd started the game on a 5-0 run and took an 8-4 lead into the break.

Shepherd had a 22-20 edge in ground balls and a 20-7 advantage in draw controls. Shepherd was 19-of-26 in clears, while Northern Michigan was 20-of-26. The Rams had a 35-24 advantage in shots.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) recorded seven saves for the Rams, while Brianna Bangle had 14 saves for the Wildcats.

The Rams are slated to return to action on Friday when they travel to Sparks, Maryland to face seventh-ranked Rollins at 6 p.m.
