Shepherd Women Downed by Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Chenelle Moore scored a game-high 19 points to lead Wheeling Jesuit (23-6) to a 78-49 win over Shepherd University (15-17) in quarterfinal action of the MEC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center.

Senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) led the Rams with 16 points, a game-high 17 rebounds, three steals, and three blocked shots. Myers hit on 8-of-15 field goals. She recorded her team-best seventh double-double of the year. Her 17 rebounds gave her a team-best eight double-digit rebound efforts for the season.

Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added 11 points, while junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) had 10.

Junior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) had seven points and six boards, while senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) contributed four points and a game-high seven assists.

Monica Burns had 13 points, while Kylie Frizell added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals.

Wheeling Jesuit rallied from a 17-15 deficit at the end of the first period to take a 32-26 lead at halftime.

The Cardinals outscored the Rams 25-11 in the third period to take a 51-37 advantage. Wheeling Jesuit pulled away in the fourth period .

Shepherd shot 29 percent (18-62) from the floor with a 25 percent effort (3-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 62.5 percent (10-16) from the charity stripe.

Wheeling Jesuit hit on 47.3 percent (26-55) from the floor with a 35.7 percent (5-14) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 87.5 percent (21-24) of their free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 42-35 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 17.

Wheeling Jesuit advances to tournament semifinal action on Saturday.

Notes: Mason finished her career with 1,292 points to tie for sixth on the Shepherd all-time scoring list … her 521 career assists rank her second , while her 186 career steals rank her sixth on the SU all-time list … Mason set a single season record for most assists with 182, surpassing the old mark of 180 set by Tracy Dean in 1988-89 … Myers capped of her career with 1,132 points to rank 10th on the all-time list … her 870 career rebounds rank her third, while her 188 career steals place her fifth on the SU all-time list … Myers also ranks among the Shepherd all-time leaders with 139 career blocked shots.
