Shepherd Baseball Takes Pair from Glenville State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (8-10, 6-0 MEC) swept a pair of games with Glenville State (10-5, 0-2 MEC) in MEC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Friday afternoon. Shepherd recorded an 11-4 victory in game one and added a 14-12 triumph in the nightcap.

Glenville State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one as Logan Henderson doubled and later scored on a single by John Peloro.

Shepherd plated seven runs in the second with a grand slam by senior first baseman Brandon Kirk (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East/Mercer CC) keying the rally. Junior designated hitter Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU), junior third baseman Chase Hoffman (Middletown, Md./Middletown), and senior outfielder Ron Farley (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Delaware Tech) each drove in a run.

The Rams added a pair of runs in the third as Kirk hit a solo blast off Shaw Hall and Hoffman added an RBI-single.

Zack Sanford hit a three-run double for the Pioneers in the fifth to cut the lead to 9-4.

Shepherd scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI-double by senior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William& Mary) and a sacrifice fly from Farley.

Senior second baseman Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) went 2-for-2 with three runs scored to lead the Rams. Hoffman, Kirk, and junior catcher Dalton Haymaker (New Oxford, Pa./Delone Catholic/Frederick CC) each added a pair of hits.

Bryan Bayliss went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers.

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Joe Rindone (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick/Towson) (2-2) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) gained the win for the Rams. Ar'tom Rank (0-3) (1.0 IP, 5 H, 7 ER, 0 K, 2 BB) took the loss.

Shepherd hit four home runs in the nightcap to outslug the Pioneers.

Farley, Hoffman, Heleine, and sophomore outfielder Reid Entsminger (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Lamar) each hit round-trippers to lead a 14-hit attack for the Rams.

Hoffman went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs, while Heleine went 2-for-5 with four RBI for the Rams.

Peloro went 5-for-6 to lead a 21-hit attack for the Pioneers.

Junior reliever Dan Galati (Hockessin, Del.St. Elizabeth's) (3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-0) gained the win for the Rams. James Finnemore (4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) took the loss for the Pioneers.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
