Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair to Sixth-Ranked Millersville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (1-9) dropped a pair of games to sixth-ranked Millersville (8-3) in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday afternoon. Millersville rallied for a 4-3 win in game and added a 13-4 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one when senior second baseman Jacob Carney (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) led off with a single and later scored on a double off the bat of senior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William& Mary). Sarty later scored on a single by Thomas.

Millersville scored a run in the fifth as Dan Neff led off with a single and scored on a double by Mitch Stoltzfus.

Shepherd answered back in the bottom of the frame as Carney singled and later scored on a single by senior outfielder Ron Farley (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Delaware Tech).

Millersville plated three runs on three hits and two errors to rally for the win. Chas McCormick singled home Ted Williams with the game-winner.

Carney and Heleine each went 2-for-3 to lead the Rams.

Dan Neff and Grayson Miller each had a pair of hits for the Marauders.

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Joe Rindone (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick/Towson) (0-3) (5.2 IP, 6 H 4 ER, 7 K, 5 BB) took the loss for the Rams. Eli Nabholz (3-0) (5.0 IP, 10 H 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) earned the win for Millersville.

McCormick went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Cole Friese went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead a 13-hit attack in the nightcap.

Sarty went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored, while sophomore infielder Brian McCourt (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Tyler Yansoky (4.0 IP, 4 H 3 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 4 BB) gained the win for the Marauders. Sophomore pitcher A.J. Stead (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) (3.0 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) took the loss for the Rams.

The two teams return to action on Sunday when they play a noon doubleheader at Millersville.
