Shepherd Softball Splits Pair at Shaw Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CARY, N.C. – Shepherd University (3-4) split a pair of games in softball action at the Shaw University Tournament on Saturday. The Rams posted a 15-0 win over Lincoln University in an early game and dropped a 7-2 decision to Wayne State in a later contest.

The Rams took advantage of four hits and 13 walks in the win over Lincoln.

Sophomore pitcher Lori Sturgill (Waldorf, Md./McDonough/College of Southern Maryland) (10 K, 2 BB) tossed a complete game five-inning one-hitter to improve to 2-1. Diamond Scott took the loss for the Lions.

Senior third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) and freshman shortstop Debbie Stuart (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) each scored three runs, while sophomore outfielder Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added a pair.

Breanna Pigford led off the second inning with a single for Lincoln's lone hit.

Lyndsey Butler hit a two-run homer and Emma Adams added two-run single to lead Wayne State past the Rams in the later game.

Junior pitcher/ designated player Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) hit a two-run single in the fourth to drive in both of Shepherd's run.

The Rams return to tournament action on Sunday when they face Virginia State at 10 a.m. and host Shaw at 12:30 p.m.
