Tenth-Ranked Mercyhurst Downs Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Taylor Izzo had four goals, while Carly Zimmerman and Grace Lawson each added three to lead 10th-ranked Mercyhurst (1-0) to a 16-5 win over Shepherd (0-2) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.

Senior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) recorded two goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) also netted two goals to lead the Rams.

Senior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore) added a single tally and freshman attacker Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) posted an assist.

Janelle Williams and Kristin Anderson each added a pair of goals for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst had a 9-2 lead at the break behind three first half goals from Zimmerman.

Mercyhurst had a 16-13 advantage in ground balls. Shepherd was 13-of-16 in clears, while Mercyhurst was 17-of-20.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) recorded six saves for the Rams, while Gabby Gravino had 11 saves for the Lakers.

The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Millersville for a 4 p.m. contest.
