Shepherd Softball Wins Nightcap to Gain Split with Lock Haven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Shepherd University (23-12) split a doubleheader with Lock Haven (15-15) in softball action at Lock Haven on Tuesday. Lock Haven gained a 3-1 win in game one, while Shepherd earned a 3-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the in the third inning in the nightcap as sophomore pinch-runner Ariana Ramirez (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) scored on a double off the bat of senior third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson).

The Rams added a run in the sixth as junior shortstop Sarah North (Belcamp, Md./Harford Technical) led off with a single and scored on a double by Witt.

Lock Haven scored a run in the bottom of the frame on a double by Michelle Holweger.

Shepherd scored its final run in the seventh as freshman second baseman Bailee Jackson (Union, W.Va./James Monroe) singled and scored on a single by sophomore outfielder Morgan Cox (Halifax, Pa./Halifax).

Senior pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (5.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) (11-3) gained the win for the Rams in the nightcap. Sophomore pitcher Lori Sturgill (Waldorf, Md./McDonough/College of Southern Maryland) (1.1 IP, 1 K, 0 BB) earned the save. Sturgill set a new Shepherd single season record with her third save of the season. Rachel Mouillesseaux (6.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 K, 0 BB) (6-7) took the loss for the Bald Eagles.

Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the first inning in game one behind RBI-singles from Holweger and Becca Caputo.

Shepherd plated a run in the third when Cox scored on an RBI-double by sophomore first baseman Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J. Shawnee).

Lock Haven added a run in the sixth on an RBI-single by Jessica Strouse.

McKenna Garlock and Holweger each had a pair of hits for the Bald Eagles.

Junior pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 7 K, 3 BB) (8-8) took the loss for the Rams. Bekah Slattery (7.0 IP, 4 H, 7 K, 3 BB) (9-7) gained the win for the Blue Knights.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Concord for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
