Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Upends West Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Senior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), senior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore), and junior midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each scored four goals to lead Shepherd (5-10, 3-1 MEC) to an 18-4 win over West Virginia Wesleyan (4-9, 2-2 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.

Matthews added a pair of assists, while Price and Hunley each recorded one.

Freshman attacker Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) added two goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), senior attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro), senior attacker Kiana Miller (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro), and freshman midfielder
Elishia Davis (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) each tallied a goal. Green also contributed an assist.

Shepherd had a 13-4 lead at halftime behind four first half goal from Price and three from Matthews.

Natalie Schaffner had two goals and an assist to pace the Bobcats.

Shepherd had a 26-11 advantage in ground balls, while West Virginia Wesleyan had a 13-10 edge in draw controls. The Rams had a 34-16 advantage in shots.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) had 10 saves for the Rams, while Hannah Antonelli recorded 11 saves for the Bobcats

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 1 p.m. contest.
