Shepherd Women’s Lacrosse Falls at UVa-Wise

Box Score WISE, Va. – Annie Hanson had two goals and an assist, while Kristin Gobbi added a pair of goals to lead UVa-Wise (12-4, 4-1 MEC) to an 11-8 win over Shepherd (5-11, 3-2 MEC) in MEC women's lacrosse action at UVa-Wise on Sunday.

Senior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) had three goals and an assist to lead the Rams.

Junior midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana and freshman attacker Lillian Funke (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) each had two goals and an assist, while junior midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) added a single tally.

Senior midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) and senior attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) each contributed an assist.

UVa-Wise had a 42-33 advantage in ground balls, while Shepherd had a 12-9 edge in draw controls. Shepherd was 17-of-25 in clears, while Wise was 18-22. Wise had a 29-23 advantage in shots.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Hickman (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) had nine saves for the Rams, while Melanie Reilly recorded 10 saves for the Cavaliers.

The third-seeded Rams will face second-seeded UVA-Wise at 4 p.m. on Friday at Wheeling Jesuit in semifinal action of MEC Tournament.
