Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair at Fairmont State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Shepherd University dropped a doubleheader to Fairmont State in MEC baseball action at Fairmont State on Thursday. The Falcons rallied for an 11-10 win in game one and added a 5-1 victory in the nightcap.

The Falcons plated six runs in the bottom of the seventh to gain the win. Fraser Brown belted a two-run homer to cap the rally.

Senior second baseman Brandon Kirk (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton East/Mercer CC) went 4-for-4, drove in four runs, and scored three to lead the Rams. He had a solo blast in the second and added a two-run shot in the fourth.

Senior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William& Mary), sophomore outfielder Reid Entsminger (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Lamar), and freshman outfielder Brenton Doyle (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) each added a pair of hits.

Johnny Kesling went 4-for-4, drove in six runs, and scored a pair to lead the Falcons. Kesling had a double, a triple, and a pair of home runs.

Sophomore reliever Ryan Simpson (Warrenton, Va./Fauquier) (0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 K, 0 BB) (1-3) took the loss for the Rams. Austin Ransom (1.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) (1-1) gained the win for the Falcons.

Brown went 1-for-2 and drove in two runs and Austin Norman went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a pair of runs scored to lead the Falcons in the nightcap.

Sarty, Kirk, and Entsminger each had a pair of hits for the Rams.

Shepherd's lone run came in the second when freshman catcher Joe Burack (Ridgely, Md./North Caroline) hit a sacrifice fly to score Entsminger.

Redshirt-freshman pitcher Joe Rindone (Brunswick, Md./Brunswick/Towson) (5-5) (5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 6 K, 3 BB) took the loss for the Rams. Tyler Holt (2-2) (8.2 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 1 BB) earned the win. Houston Morris notched the final out of the game with two on and two out to gain the save.

The two teams return to action for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field in the regular season finale on Sunday.
