Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Top-ranked University of Charleston (6-0-0, 3-0-0 MEC) earned a 2-0 win over Shepherd University (0-5-1, 0-3-0 MEC) in MEC men's soccer action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Thomas Vancaeyezeele scored on an assist from Kieran Bywater at the 53:41 mark to give Charleston a 1-0 advantage.
The Golden Eagles added an insurance goal at the 70:13 mark when Gabriel Cabral scored on a feed from David Achaerandio.
Freshman goalkeeper Jacob Dougal (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) recorded eight saves for the Rams, including six in the second half. Paulo Pita and Ian De Oliveira did not record a save in goal for the Golden Eagles.
Charleston had a 29-3 advantage in shots and a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a 5 p.m. contest.
