Arden Leads Shepherd Women Past West Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 26 points to lead Shepherd University (9-8, 5-6 MEC) to a 65-47 win over West Virginia Wesleyan (5-12, 3-8)  in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday.

Arden connected on 9-of-16 shots with a 6-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. She was 2-of-2 from the foul line. She added a game-high six assists, five rebounds, and a pair of steals.

Freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 11 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Senior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) had 10 points and seven boards, while junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) also tossed in 10 points.
 
Victoria Jackson had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Lana Long and Mari Stewart each added eight points. Stewart also grabbed eight boards.

Shepherd had a 16-9 lead after one period and took a 26-23 advantage into the break behind 16 first-half points from Arden.

The Rams closed the third period on a 7-0 run to take a 16-point lead at 52-36 heading into the final stanza. Wesleyan would get no closer than a 14-point deficit in the final period.

Shepherd shot 43.1 percent (22-51) from the floor with a 44.4 percent effort (8-18) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 76.5 percent (13-17) of their free throws.

West Virginia Wesleyan hit on 21.7 percent (15-69) from the floor with a 6.3 percent (1-16) performance from beyond the arc. The Bobcats connected on 66.7 percent (16-24) of their free throws.

West Virginia Wesleyan had a 50-43 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 18 turnovers and committed 24.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 2 p.m. contest.
