Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Caleb Davis scored 17 points and D'Ondre Stockman added 16 to lead Fairmont State (14-4, 10-2 MEC) to an 81-66 win over Shepherd University (11-7, 7-5 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Fairmont State on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) paced the Rams with 17 points, He connected on 6-of-8 field goals with a 2-of-4 performance from beyond the arc. He was 3-of-3 from the line.
Junior guard Derek McKnight (Teaneck, NJ/Gaston (N.C.) Day School/Louisburg CC) added 14 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Junior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had nine points, while senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) tossed in eight.
Jason Jolly and Andrew Emrick each added 11 points, while Vonte Montgomery had 10 for the Fighting Falcons.
Fairmont State had a 36-29 lead at halftime.
Shepherd kept the game close for the majority of the contest. The Fighting Falcons took a double-digit lead for good at 74-64 on a jumper by Jolly with 3:59 remaining.
Shepherd connected on 44.6 percent (25-56) from the floor with a 14.3 percent (3-21) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 76.5 percent (13-17) of their free throws.
Fairmont State shot 50 percent (31-62) from the floor with a 24 percent effort (6-25) from three-point range. The Falcons shot 76.5 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe.
Fairmont State had a 38-28 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed 11.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Liberty for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
