Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) and junior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) each scored a team-high 19 points to lead Shepherd University to a 91-73 win over Concord University in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.
Davis hit on 7-of-11 field goals with a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range. He was 1-of-2 from the charity stripe. Burgess connected on 8-of-12 field goals with a 3-of-3 performance from the line. He also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Senior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) had 12 points and a game-high six assists. Junior guard Derek McKnight (Teaneck, NJ/Gaston (N.C.) Day School/Louisburg CC) contributed 10 points and five assists off the bench.
Tommy Bolte, the leading scorer in NCAA II, scored a game-high 38 points for the Mountain Lions (8-4, 5-2 MEC). Bolte added five assists. Antonio Patterson scored 11 points and Trey Brisco tossed in eight.
Shepherd (7-6, 3-4 MEC) had a 47-36 lead at the break as Burgess (13) and Davis (12) teamed up for 25 first-half points.
Concord rallied to within two points at 53-51 after a three-pointer by Brisco with 14:22 remaining.
Shepherd proceeded on a 13-0 run to take a 15-point lead at 66-51 with 10:41 left to take control of the contest.
Shepherd connected on 55.9 percent (33-59) from the floor with a 48.1 percent (13-27) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 80 percent (12-15) of their free throws.
Concord shot 38.1 percent (24-63) from the floor with a 32.4 percent effort (12-37) from three-point range. The Mountain Lions shot 76.5 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 36-32 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 12 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise for a 4 p.m. contest.
