WHEELING, W.Va. – Shepherd University (4-6-2, 3-3-2 MEC) battled to a 2-2 tie with Wheeling Jesuit (2-9-1, 1-6-1 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at Wheeling Jesuit on Wednesday evening.
Wheeling Jesuit took a 1-0 lead at the 17:32 mark on a goal by Marley Magruder.
Shepherd tied the game on an unassisted goal by freshman defender Madison Michael (Myersville, Md./Middletown) at the 42:10 mark.
Wheeling Jesuit took a 2-1 lead when Emily Hartley on an assist from Kendra Benzel at the 66:54 mark.
Sophomore midfielder Emma Bernardoni (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) scored on a free kick at the 69:24 mark to force overtime.
Freshmen goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (4) and Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (8) combined for 12 saves for the Rams. Megan Herter posted five saves in goal for the Cardinals.
Wheeling Jesuit had a 26-14 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host Fairmont State at noon for Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
