Shepherd Women’s Soccer Gains 1-1 Tie at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Shepherd (5-8-5, 4-4-5 MEC) battled to a 1-1 tie with West Virginia Wesleyan (12-1-3, 10-0-3 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead into the break as sophomore defender Katherine Eddy (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) scored on assist from sophomore midfielder Emma Bernardoni (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) at the 8:38 mark.

West Virginia Wesleyan got a second half goal from Shannon Shawgo on an assist from Haelly Ramirez at the 49:45 mark to force overtime.

Neither team got off a shot in the first overtime session. The Bobcats had a 5-1 edge in shots in the second overtime period.

Freshmen goalkeepers Lulu Fricks (Alexandria, Va./Hayfield) (8) and Meghan Byers (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) (2) combined for 10 saves for the Rams. Chelsea Hubner and Ashlee Schumacher each did not register a save in goal for the Bobcats.

West Virginia Wesleyan had a 19-3 edge in shots and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
