Shepherd Volleyball Concludes Historic Season

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Shepherd University volleyball team concluded its season in quarterfinal action of the NCAA II Atlantic Regional Tournament at Wheeling Jesuit University on Thursday afternoon. Second-seeded Gannon (31-2), ranked 23rd in the latest AVCA NCAA II Poll,  handed seventh-seeded Shepherd (23-10) a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) setback to advance to the semifinal round.

Junior outside hitter Peyton Lindblad (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) led the Rams with 10 kills. Junior outside hitter Cambriea Hill (Columbia, Md./Hammond) added eight kills and 13 digs, while freshman middle hitter Olivia Waszak (Saint Johns, Mich./Saint Johns) had had a team-best five blocks.

Senior setter Becca Kern (Martinsburg, W.Va./Musselman) contributed 25 assists and eight digs, while junior libero Imani Major (Gainesville, Va./Millbrook) posted a team-high 17 digs.

Lauren Sampson had 11 kills, five digs, and four aces to lead the Golden Knights. Ashley McClung added eight kills, 19 assists and 10 digs.

Notes: Shepherd had a 6-3 mark against PSAC teams on the season …  Shepherd 's NCAA II regional appearance was the first in program history … Shepherd's 10-match winning streak this year is the longest in program history.
