GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Emily Stoller scored a game-high 34 points to lead 18th-ranked Glenville State (6-1, 3-1 MEC) to a 111-103 win over Shepherd (3-4, 1-3 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Glenville State on Saturday.
Stoller hit on 11-of-22 field goals with a 3-of-10 effort from three-point range. She was 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
Senior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) scored a career-high 31 points to lead the Rams.She hit on 9-of-16 field goals with an 8-of-10 performance from beyond the arc. She was 5-of-6 from the foul line. Tibbs' eight three-pointers set a Shepherd single-game record, eclipsing the old mark of seven shared by Morgan Arden (vs. Concord - 1-4-18) and Sandi Goulet (vs. Alderson-Broaddus - 2-26-99).
Sophomore forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added a career-high 28 points. She hit on 11-of-13 field goals with a 6-of-6 effort from the line. She grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Hannah Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added a career-high 12 points, senior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) tossed in 11, while sophomore guard Marley McLaughlin (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) was also in double figures with 10 points.
Re'Shawna Stone had 20 points and Blaize Burgess added 19 for the Pioneers.
The game featured 11 ties and 19 lead changes. Glenville State took the lead for good at 67-66 after a layup by Stone with 1:55 left in the third period.
Shepherd shot 53.2 percent (33-62) from the floor with a 52.9 percent effort (9-17) from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 73.7 percent (28-38) of their free throws.
Glenville State hit on 43.5 percent (37-85) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (12-39) performance from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 80.6 percent (25-31) of their free throws.
Glenville State had a 45-41 edge in rebounds. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 25.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to West Liberty for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
