Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) scored a career-high 27 points to lead five Rams in double figures as Shepherd University (13-8, 9-6 MEC) recorded a 107-90 win over Notre Dame College (5-16, 3-12 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.
Lang hit on 9-of-11 field goals with a 7-of-9 performance from three-point range. He was 2-of-2 from the charity stripe. He added a career and game-high 10 assists.
Senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 22 points, senior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) had 16 points, while freshman guard Cam Stephens (Bunker Hill, W.Va./Musselman) tossed in 12.
Junior forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) posted his fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Drew Scarberry scored a game-high 28 points to pace the Falcons. Angelo Cugini added 18 points and nine boards, while Kyauta Taylor had 16 points and six assists.
Shepherd had a 52-40 lead at the break as Lang (15) and Carr (13) combined for 28 first-half points.
Notre Dame opened the second half on a 16-8 run to cut the lead to four points at 60-56 after Oliver Megins drained a three-pointer with 15:15 remaining. Shepherd proceeded on a 16-4 run to take a 16-point advantage at 76-60 after a pair of free throws by junior guard Derek McKnight (Teaneck, NJ/Gaston (N.C.) Day School/Louisburg CC) with 12:05 left.
Shepherd maintained a double-digit lead until a three-pointer by Scarberry got the Falcons to within eight at 95-87 with 1:47 left. The Ram closed the game on a 12-3 run to cap the win.
Shepherd connected on 59 percent (36-61) from the floor with a 52.8 percent (19-36) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 80 percent (16-20) of their free throws.
Notre Dame shot 55 percent (33-60) from the floor with a 55.9 percent effort (19-34) from three-point range. The Falcons shot 50 percent (5-10) from the charity stripe.
Shepherd had a 33-25 advantage in rebounding. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed eight.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Urbana for a 4 p.m. contest.
