Notre Dame Outlasts Shepherd Women

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 37 points, but Notre Dame College (15-7, 11-4 MEC) held on for a 78-72 win over Shepherd University (9-12, 5-10 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.

Arden connected on 14-of-20 field goals with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. She was 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) added 17 points, seven rebounds, a career-high four blocked shots, and three steals. Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) had 10 points and six boards.

Kim Cook had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Falcons. Marisa Finazzo added 15 points, Seina Adachi had 13, while Katie Karalic tossed in 12.

Notre Dame outscored Shepherd 19-6 in the second period to take a 38-28 lead at halftime.

Shepherd trailed by as many as 12 points in the final period, but the Rams went on a 9-2 run to get to within five points at 71-66 after a three-pointer by Tibbs with 2:09 remaining. They would get no closer.

Shepherd shot 50 percent (28-56) from the floor with a 41.7 percent effort (5-12) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 84.6 percent (11-13) of their free throws.

Notre Dame hit on 49.2 percent (30-61) from the floor with a 26.1 percent (6-23) performance from beyond the arc. The Falcons connected on 63.2 percent (12-19) of their free throws.

Notre Dame had a 38-26 advantage in rebounds. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed 17.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Urbana for a 2 p.m. contest.
