Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) scored a game-high 22 points and senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added 18 points and nine assists to lead Shepherd University (12-13, 8-11 MEC) to a 93-66 win over West Virginia State (10-15, 10-9 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday.
Tibbs connected on 9-of-14 field goals with a 4-of-7 effort from three-point range. She also added five assists and three boards.
Senior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) added a season-high 15 points, while sophomore guard Lauren Reed (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) tossed in a season-high 14 points behind a 4-of-7 performance beyond the arc. Junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added nine points, eight boards, and five steals.
Jasmine Davis scored 18 points to pace the Yellow Jackets. Aurrehae Hines added 13 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Shepherd held a 39-29 lead at halftime as Arden (11) and McKinney (10) teamed for 21 first-half points for the Rams.
Shepherd took control of the game in the third period as the Rams entered the final period with a 60-41 advantage.
Shepherd shot 48.5 percent (33-68) from the floor with a 47.8 percent effort (11-23) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 84.2 percent (16-19) of their free throws.
West Virginia State hit on 37.1 percent (23-62) from the floor with a 28 percent (7-25) performance from beyond the arc. The Yellow Jackets connected on 68.4 percent (13-19) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 40-36 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 12.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Charleston for a 2 p.m. contest.
