SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman forward
Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) scored a game-high 16 points to lead four Rams in double figures as Shepherd University (13-13, 9-11 MEC) recorded a 58-45 win over University of Charleston (11-15, 7-13 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Clayton connected on 8-of-14 field goals. She added seven rebounds and two steals.

Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She added five assists and three steals. Junior guard
Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) and senior guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) each tossed in 10 points. Arden added eight boards and four assists.
Octavia Loll and Brooklyn Pannell each scored nine points to lead the Golden Eagles. Abby Watson added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Shepherd held a 33-20 lead at halftime as Lankford (12) and Clayton (10) teamed for 22 first-half points for the Rams.
Shepherd led by as many as 15 points in the second half. Charleston rallied to within four points at 43-39 after a layup by Watson with 9:49 left in the fourth period. Shepherd proceeded on a 13-2 run to take a 56-41 lead after a jumper by senior guard
Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) with 4:59 left.
Shepherd shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the floor with a 36.4 percent effort (4-11) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 66.7 percent (4-6) of their free throws.
Charleston hit on 35.6 percent (21-59) from the floor with a 10 percent (2-20) performance from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles connected on 33.3 percent (1-3) of their free throws.
Shepherd had a 39-30 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 14.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Glenville State for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
