Shepherd Women Fall to Seventh-Ranked Glenville State

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Senior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove)  scored a game-high 23 points, but seventh-ranked Glenville State (26-1, 21-0 MEC) posted a 105-87 win over Shepherd University (13-14, 9-12 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Glenville State on Wednesday.

Arden connected on 10-of-22 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from three-point range. She was 2-of-2 from the line. She added six rebounds and two assists.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage/Glenville State) added 21 points against her former team. Junior forward Liz Moormann (New Market, Md./Oakdale) had 12 points, five boards, and two blocked shots, while freshman forward Sydney Clayton (Frederick, Md./St. John's) contributed 11 points and seven rebounds.

Junior guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West  York Area) added seven points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

Bhrea Griffin and Kristin DesRocher each scored 18 points to lead the Pioneers. Asiya Smith added 16 points, Julie Bishop tossed in 12, while Tayana Stewart had 10.

Glenville State held a 57-42 lead at halftime as Griffin (16) and DesRocher (9) teamed for 25 first-half points for the Rams.

The Pioneers took the lead for good at 8-7 on a three-point play by Griffin with 6:11 left in the first period. Glenville State closed the period on an 18-9 run to take a 26-16 lead.

Shepherd shot 49.3 percent (33-67) from the floor with a 46.7 percent effort (7-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 60.9 percent (14-23) of their free throws.

Glenville State hit on 45.2 percent (38-84) from the floor with a 42.6 percent (20-47) performance from beyond the arc. The Pioneers connected on 47.4 percent (9-19) of their free throws.

Shepherd had a 46-43 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 22.

The Rams conclude regular season play on Saturday when they host Fairmont State for Senior Day at 2 p.m.
