Carr Reaches 1,500-Point Mark; Fairmont State Edges Shepherd Men on Senior Day

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Jason Jolly scored a game-high 36 points to lead Fairmont State (21-7, 17-5 MEC) to a 79-76 win over Shepherd University (16-12, 12-10 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action on Senior Day at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Jolly connected on 12-of-19 three-pointers for the Fighting Falcons. His 12 treys and 19 three-point attempts are Butcher Center records.

Senior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School)  led the Rams with 20 points. He connected on 7-of-11 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from beyond the arc. He was 2-of-2 from the line.

Sophomore guard Thomas Lang (New Market, Md./Linganore) added 16 points and a game-high six assists, while senior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds to post his 12th double-double of the season. Carr (1,504) surpassed the 1,500-point mark in the game.

Andrew Emrick added 10 points for the Fighting Falcons. Vince Franklin had six points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

Fairmont State had a 38-33 lead behind 18 first-half points from Jolly.

Shepherd rallied to within three points at 79-76 after a three-pointer by Lang with 42 seconds left in the game. Shepherd's last-second three-point attempt was off the mark as Fairmont State held on for the win.

Shepherd connected on 49.2 percent (31-63) from the floor with a 35 percent (7-20) performance from beyond the arc for the game. The Rams hit on 63.6 percent (7-11) of their free throws.

Fairmont State shot 50 percent (29-58) from the floor with a 47.6 percent effort (20-42) from three-point range. The Falcons shot 50 percent (1-2) from the charity stripe. The 20 three-pointers set a Butcher Center team mark.

Shepherd had a 36-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed five.

The fourth-seeded Rams return to action on Friday when they take on fifth-seeded Charleston in quarterfinal action of the MEC Tournament at 8:15 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
